About Angela Wessels, LPC, NCC, BCN

Licensed Professional Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, Board Certification in Neurofeedback

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. I started working in the mental health field in 2010, and began providing outpatient counseling services in 2015.

I work with clients ages 18 and up, and my areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, stress management, life adjustment issues, and trauma. I have additional training in integrating a client’s faith in therapy and can offer this upon request. I enjoy frequently working with first responders, both for counseling services and offering critical incident stress debriefings following traumatic incidents. There are intense mental and physical demands on first responders, and I am passionate about helping this population thrive both on the job and in their personal lives.

In addition to counseling services, I also provide neurofeedback training. Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that can be used to train the brain to function more optimally. In general, neurofeedback can help the brain experience more calm and focus in daily life. I’ve completed training as a trauma-informed neurofeedback provider through the Trauma Research Foundation and have my BCN (board certification in neurofeedback). I use FDA-cleared equipment and individualized training protocols to help clients meet their goals. More information about neurofeedback can be found at https://isnr.org/what-is-neurofeedback and http://www.aboutneurofeedback.com/neurofeedback-info-center/faq/ .

I consider my counseling style to be trauma-informed, collaborative, intentional, and forward-focused. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness and DBT principles, motivational interviewing and solution-focused strategies to assist clients in establishing more effective patterns of thought and behavior. I also enjoy helping clients explore larger concepts of purpose and meaning as needed. I consider it a privilege to help clients build hope for the future.
